Vegas Night Shoot

One night while I was in Vegas for WPPI, a group of us got together for some night shooting. One of the girls had brought her assistant along, and she had brought her wedding gown. So for the fun of it we dressed her up in the gown and headed out to "play". By the time we got started it was almost 10:00 at night and cold out, so we decided to just head over to an empty hallway in the hotel. We had fun playing with some different equipment; one girl had brought a ring flash that we all played with in addition to a softbox, pocket wizards, video lights, etc. It was a lot of fun, but it was also neat to be able to feed off of and learn from each other.
As far as photoshop, I played around with these more than I usually do. I would LOVE some constructive criticism on these! Let me know what you think works, and what doesn't...

The next 5 shots are my absolute favorites of the night. We set up a softbox with pocket wizards, and I set my camera to shut out all of the background lighting (it wasn't a dark hallway!). I think the result is really dramatic!
The next two are the same pose, but different composition. I think I like the first one better, although there is something about the second one that I still like.

Eventually we got kicked out of the hallway by hotel security - apparently we weren't supposed to shoot there? However, we did convince the security guard to let us take a "few" shots in another hallway that we'd spotted..

Here's a few "action" shots... the first one is Candi holding the softbox...
Just checking...

Ok these are great pictures! I love those backed out ones! They are so soft and glow-y and pretty! There are a couple that I can tell you played with the settings on....the same way you did with one of your other posts-it makes it look um maybe older or something? Like the second blue one and the one with the red background where she is laying down....i think it is supposed to make it look like it's old or a portrait but to me it looks like you are at a club and the disco fog is all around. LOL I don't know if that makes sense. I personally just prefer the clearer shots because I think you are SO good at that. I know absolutely nothing about being a current photographer though so that might be something that is totally in style :) Anyways, just my thoughts. I love them, as usual!

Thank you so much!! I love what you said about the club/disco fog -I think you hit the nail on the head! I know the trend in photography is to do a lot of that kind of stuff, and that works for a lot of people. But, the more I look at these pictures, the more I think that for me, it is trying to put on a glove that doesn't quite fit. I really like the clearer ones where the colors stand out the best - it's just me.

Wow, those blew me away!!! I actually liked that second one too, the one where you blocked out all the extra light and her dress took on that "antiquated" look to it :D I thought the picture had a softness to it that was very appropriate for a dark still photo...esp of a romantic wedding dress. You rock :)
